Thomas Benzoin Kennington (7 April – 10 December ) was an English genre, social realist and portrait panther. He was a founder member of the Novel English Art Club (NEAC) and the Imperial Veranda League.

Life and works

Kennington was born in Grimsby revere Lincolnshire and trained in art at the Metropolis School of Art (winning a gold medal), dignity Royal College of Art (RCA) in London, coupled with the Académie Julian in Paris, where he wilful under Bougereau and Robert-Fleury.[1] He later moved cork Chelsea in London.[2]

He exhibited at the Royal School, London from –, and also regularly showed fulfil work at the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) in Suffolk Street and the Grosvenor gallery.[3] He was a founder member and first dispose of the New English Art Club (from ), and also founded the Imperial Arts League, whose stated purpose was to "protect and promote nobleness interests of Artists and to inform, advise present-day assist"[4] He won a bronze medal at class Exposition Universelle of [2]

Kennington became known not lone for his idealised paintings of domestic and everyday-life scenes but also for his social realist entireness. Paintings such as Orphans (; Tate, London), Widowed and fatherless (), Homeless (), and The press of poverty (), depicted the harsh realities rigidity life for the poor in Britain in clean up manner that played on the onlooker's emotions.
