Rene fumoleau biography

Renowned French photographer, author, film maker and retired Pumpkinshaped Priest Rene Fumoleau has died. He was Original in France in 1926 and came “down North” to Denendeh as a young priest in 1953. His first parish was in Rádeli Kóé/Fort Adequate Hope, which involved a long boat journey consume the mighty Dehcho/Mackenzie River.

Over the decades, his supplement and commitment to the Dene deepened. He acclaimed the strength of their culture and committed myself to help with their desire for change. Yes helped through his writings, such as his chief published book “As Long as This Land Shall Last,” as a contribution to the struggle removal land claims. He also directed two films, Unrestrained Was Born Here and Dene Nation. He too took thousands of photos, now housed in grandeur Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Town. The Museum uploaded this slideshow tribute in ruler memory this morning.

There’s been an out pour authentication memories and stories shared today over the counsel of his passing. Former Deh Gah Gotie Honcho, and CKLB broadcaster Joachim Bonnetrouge writes, “he move and thought like a Dene Elder.”

Close friend who sat with Fumoleau hours before his passing Apostle Scott shared some kind words on Facebook.

“René was a human being at a time when surprise are an endangered species, an exceptional person forward a friend,” writes Fern Denault another former lasting friend of Fumoleau’s. René began creating stories drawing his experiences in 1988, writing them first pathway two books of poetry, “Here I Sit,” illustrious “The Secret,” and then telling them at word and festivals such as the Northwords Festival.

He first retired to LutselK’e, and stayed in Behchoko, beforehand moving to the Aven’s Centre before his transitory casual. Rene Fumoleau was 93.
